Bayern Munich sign James Rodriguez from Real Madrid

German champions, Bayern Munich, have signed Colombia forward, James Rodriguez from Real Madrid.

In a deal that would catch many unawares, Rodriguez has moved on a two-year loan deal reportedly worth around £9m, with Bayern having the option to buy the 25-year-old.

His move will be completed when he signs his contract after the obligatory medical is done.

‘We’re delighted we’ve been able to complete this transfer,’ Bayern AG chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said.

‘Signing James Rodríguez was our coach Carlo Ancelotti’s biggest wish, following their successful spell working together in Madrid.’

Rodriguez was top scorer at the 2014 FIFA World Cup, despite Colombia being knocked out in the quarterfinal stage by hosts, Brazil.

He signed for Real Madrid afterwards from AS Monaco in a deal worth in excess of £60m, going on to win a Spanish league title and two UEFA Champions League titles.

But in recent times, Rodriguez saw limited playing time in a star-studded forward line comprising Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, Alvaro Morata, and Isco among others.

Rodríguez will be a member of the Bayern squad that sets off on Sunday evening for the 12-day Audi Summer Tour to China and Singapore.
