Upcoming: Ghana vs. Portugal Boateng and Muntari Loose World Cup Place
It is really the black times for the
Ghanaian national team: they face stiff competition with Portugal for
the second team to make the last 16 from Group G in the game on Thursday
June 26, and more saddening is the dismissal of two players from the
World Cup camp.
Schalke's Kevin Prince
Boateng and AC Milan player Sulley Muntari have been suspended and
sacked from the 2014 FIFA World Cup for acts of gross misconduct towards
the coach and members of the Football Association.
The
Black Stars have been embroiled with a pay saga after the game against
Germany and the issue escalated to 'verbal abuse' which required
disciplinary measures from the FA.
Sulley Muntari was reported to have slapped a senior FA official after a heated argument while Prince Boateng was said to have 'verbally abused' coach Kwesi Apppiah and as a result have their World Cup accreditation withdrawn with immediate effect by the FA.
An official statement from the FA reads: “The GFA has suspended Sulley Ali Muntari indefinitely from the Black Stars with immediate effect.
“The
decision was taken in the wake of his unprovoked physical attack on an
executive committee member of the GFA and a management member of the
Black Stars, Mr Moses Armah on Tuesday 24th June, 2014 during a meeting.
“The GFA has approved coach Kwesi Appiah’s decision to suspend Kevin-Prince Boateng indefinitely from the Black Stars.
“The
decision was taken following Boateng’s vulgar verbal insults targeted
at coach Kwesi Appiah during the team’s training session in Maceio this
week.
“Boateng has since showed no remorse for his actions which has resulted in the decision,” The statement read.
Meanwhile, Boateng has defended the claims against him saying that: "I asked him (Coach Appiah) what he had against me? Then he started yelling at me. He insulted me.
